A Little Unaccomodating
Category : Uncategorized
For me, one of the most surprising pieces of feedback we have heard about the solar lamp during this journey so far is that our lantern is “a little unaccomodating,” as translated directly from the spanish, “poquito incomodo.”

We have essentially put this together from cheap parts we found at a store called Fleet Farm and some places here in Nicaragua. So the body of the lantern is square – it doesn´t really “look like a lantern” per se and therefore does not match the expecations of people living way out in the middle of nowhere without electricity. You would think these people would not really care what the lamp looked like, as long as it gave light, right? Well, I guess not. Northern Nicaraguans are used to seeing light come out of either a big kerosene lamp or a beer bottle filled with Kerosene, not a brown box. So in the future we are going to either have to make this thing a lot more pretty or a lot more like Sam Adams.
